Hampton Roads Chapter ASHRAE Scholarship

The Hampton Roads ASHRAE Scholarship was established by the chapter in 2017 to help students with financial need. The scholarship is available to students who are enrolled in an accredited engineering or architecture program. The scholarship is managed by the chapter in conjunction with ASHRAE Foundation.

Scholarships are awarded based on the following criteria, in order of importance.
  • Involvement with ASHRAE Student Chapter.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability (activities, leadership roles, community service,etc.)
  • Work Ethic (summer jobs, part-time jobs, etc.)
  • A cumulative grade point average (GPA) of at least 2.7 on a scale where 4.0 is the highest and/or a class standing of noless than the top 30% evidenced by an official transcript of grades or written statement from a school administrator.

Gordon W. Zipperer III Scholarship

The Gordon Webster Zipperer III Endowed Scholarship was established by the Hampton Roads Chapter of the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air Conditioning Engineers, Inc. (HRC-ASHRAE) to promote heating, refrigeration, and air conditioning engineering education at Old Dominion University. The recipient must be a full-time undergraduate student studying mechanical engineering or mechanical engineering technology. The student must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 and be a rising senior or in the senior year. Preference is given to student membership in the ODU Student Chapter of ASHRAE. Scholarship is administered by ODU Foundation.

Dan C. Pettway Scholarship

In 2010, the Hampton Roads Chapter established the Daniel C. Pettway Scholarship at Tidewater Community College. Dan's long standing commitment and contributions to ASHRAE at the local, regional, and national levels are recognized by the establishment of this scholarship. Scholarship Criteria:
  • Student must be enrolled in one of the following programs: Engineering, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration, and/or the Computer Aided Drafting and Design Technology program
  • Student can be a full-time or part-time
  • Student must have completed at least 20 credit hours
  • Student must have a minimum overall GPA of 2.5
